Are all of your candles made with your premium soy blend?

Our container candles are all made with a high quality grade, soy wax blend. Our free standing candles are made with a high quality paraffin wax. No matter which product you choose, trimming the wick properly and often will reduce or prevent soot.

I have read a lot about the dangers of lead wicks, can you give me more information?

The only wicks we use are zinc core wicks. Zinc core wicks are not lead alloys; they are pure zinc. We have a Candle-Safety.Org “We Checked” seal of approval. This ensures that our company has been checked and we do not offer any candles with lead wicks.

How can I prevent soot?

No one wants soot on walls or ceilings. Candles left burning for extended periods always need the wick trimmed. The smoking or sooting is most likely caused from the flame being too large. Please trim your wicks often. Keeping your candle out of a draft and burning for no more than four hours at a time are other ways to prevent soot. Read our candle burning tips for more ways to get the most of your candle.

What is your return policy?

A well maintained and properly burned candle will provide you with hours of flickering candlelight. If for some reason your candle doesn't perform as is should, contact us for return authorization and a replacement candle. We will test to determine the cause so that we can continue to provide a top quality product. Candles cannot be returned because the scent is not compatible with your nose. You are welcome to email us for sample smell information.

What are the benefits of hand poured candles?

Businesses that mass produce or machine pour candles are interested in quantity while here at NCC our focus is on quality. Many mass produced candles are dipped in scent or only scented in the top portion of the candle. That type of candle only smells good in the store and once lit, it will not fill a room with fragrance. Our candles are scented throughout, so while the candle burns it continues to release scent from the first burn to the last. Lastly since we hand pour our candles, every one receives thorough inspection to make sure there are no air bubbles, sink holes, and that the wicks are centered properly. This attention to detail ensures a delightful smelling candle that will give you great results.

How did Northland Candle Company get its start?

Disappointed by all the big name candles with very little to no scent throw or candles that just tunnel down and waste wax (and money), I decided to try to make a candle on my own. I researched and tested for several months until I finally found a formula that had a great scent throw and would burn all the way down the jar. No wasted wax means a longer burning candle. We have been hand~pouring our candles since 2000.

How long will your candle burn?

The length of time a candle will burn depends upon its usage. To get the most burn time out of your candle, trim the wick. We cannot stress this enough. Trim the wick between 1/8" and 1/4" before each and every time you light your candle. Wax travels up the wick and provides the candle with the "fuel" to keep it going. If the wick is trimmed below 1/8" the wax will drown the wick causing it to go out completely. Another tip to a long lasting candle is to let the wax melt to all sides of the candle before extinguishing. This provides more area for scent release and eliminates wax waste.
